Hellerup, Denmark

Sometimes, the largest room has to go to a little girl. In this case, the largest and most wonderful room in an old, beautiful house in Hellerup, just north of Copenhagen, was given to Varla, 6,5 years old.

Flanked with windows, the room is filled with natural sun light and views to the garden and neighbouring houses. Inside, various zones allow for sleeping, playing, and being creative – all in one beautiful, balanced space.

Explore Varla's wonderful kid's room - a space for her, and a space where her family gathers every day to play and spend time together.

Varla's bed is placed in the corner of the room, and has a soft, airy feel with white bedding and several pillows. Books for night time are stored on the bench, and a raffia basket is placed by the end of the bed.

A large pink rug adds colour to the room. Find a similar rug here.

Natural light shines on a cute Bunny Lamp, which is placed on a rattan table next to Varla's bed. The lamp gives a soft light at night time, and may be left on during the night.

The vintage table and chair set fits in perfectly in between two windows with views to the garden.

Seen here: Pink suitcases in the window sill, a blue brush and dolphin claw clips on the table.

Roses from the garden and hair accessories, including a Mason Pearson children's brush, dolphin claw clips and colourful hair clips.

"Varla's room is where our family gathers – this is where we hang out, spend time together and play."

– Alexandra, Varla's mom

The nook has been transformed into a desk area, and Varla spends hours here being creative. Two Klapp chairs in oak are placed here – one for Varla, and one for a parent or a friend.

On the hooks hang a tote in rose and backpacks; on the floor sits a extra large four in a row.

The yellow and navy backpacks are from Kaos and are made of durable cotton canvas, perfect for any outing. Below, the large Four in a Row.

Varla loves to sit at her desk and draw and be creative. The pouch with William Morris print is used to store some of her markers and a pair of scissors; next to it lies two small notebooks illustrated by Japanese artist Yumi Kitagishi.

The Klapp Chair from Kaos is a practical and functional high chair suited for kids from age 6 months and up to 10 years. The chair may be folded when not in use, and can be placed by the wall or behind a door, where it takes up very little space.

On the chair hangs a pink cashmere sweater. The blue rug is vintage. Find an alternative blue rug here.

Liberty love: An 'All you need is love' notebook and a Liberty puzzle made in honour of Liberty's 150th birthday.

The book 'Den Fantastiske Bus' lies on the table next to a beautiful green bowl.

The organic, round curve of the Klapp Chair offers comfortable and ergonomic back support.

The stairs to the left lead up to a cosy little nook. This is Varla's own space, and noone but her and her friends are allowed up here.

A soft mattress is placed upstairs and makes for a comfortable place to sit, read and play. Seen here: A large mushroom lamp, a Liberty pillow and a small Nathalie Lété raffia storage basket. Above the bed hangs the 'Hundred Acre Wood' poster framed in an oak frame.

There are several light sources in Varla's room, including a Bambi Lamp, which gives a warm feeling to the room.

A pin board hangs on the wall and keeps drawings, pictures and other memories in place.
