Not much was planned ahead for 3-year-old Hilma's room, but that doesn't show: This space is warm, inviting, creative, playful, and most importantly, childish – a setting created by giving space to everything Hilma and her parents love.

The room is decorated with "things that have come our way", as Hilma's mother puts it, and the, at times, unexpected mix of colours, fabrics and materials create a wonderfully relaxed and very personal, creative and magical space.

A look into Hilma's room shows the tall ceilings and large windows, allowing lots of natural light to shine through.

A beautiful mix of textiles, colours and materials.

Cushions are from APC Quilt and Svenskt Tenn; Jul i Bulderby by Astrid Lindgren from Gyldendal, and a duck lamp giving off a warm, cosy light at night time.

The doll mouse house is full of fun little mouse furniture and interiors. Hilma loves to play here – and so does her mother. A Charlie Chair in colour Sky is placed by the burgundy table; a soft doll sits in the push wagon and a knitted whale lies on the bed. The magician hat is from Meri Meri.

A blue Liberty duvet cover is a colourful contrast to the natural wooden bed frame. On the duvet lies 'Forår i Bulderby' by Astrid Lindgren and next to it a large knitted whale.

The desk and shelves were made by Hilma's dad and painted by Hilma's mom in "the loveliest blue colour I could find in the store". On the floor sits a large raffia basket full of toys; on the top shelf stands a wool guard and below are 24 markers in a wooden box.

Hilma loves to spend time by her desk playing, painting and colouring. This is also where she keeps all of her colouring books and stickers. Find similar arts and crafts here. A pile of Astrid Lindgren books from Gyldendal are placed on the chair; one of them Lotte kan nemlig is a current favourite.

Babushkas, wooden toys, 24 markers in a wooden box and other personal belongings make for a lovely display on the shelves above the desk.

The old Astrid Lindgren book on the lower shelf was a personal gift to Hilma from her uncle Loui: This was his very own favourite book as a child; now passed on to Hilma together with a handwritten poem.

Børnenes Dag i Bulderby from Gyldendal is a classic book in a beautiful new edition. The book lies on a pouf made by Tea and A Slice with fabric from Svenskt Tenn brought home from Stockholm. Next to the book; a sword made by Hilma.

The vintage wooden cabinet was found in this lovely mint colour. Next to it is a drying rack with pegs and baby hangers in use to hang Hilma's dolls' clothes.

On the door hangs a tote from Bonton – find a similar one here, and a little handmade crown. Over the door hangs a green clock that used to hang in Hilma's dad's room.

Emil fra Lønneberg lies on the desk next to little stickers – find similar stickers here and here. On the desk are a set of small storage tins in use to store pencils, a pair of scissors and a blue brush from Mason Pearson.
